Ideas For Decorating The Perfect Nursery

Author: Jon Pankhurst

When you are getting ready to welcome a happy new addition to
your home, you are going to have a lot on your mind! As a new
parent, one of the great joys of expecting a baby is getting
ready to decorate the nursery.

The nursery is going to be where you and your baby are spending
a great deal of time in the next few years, and it is important
to make sure that you make the right choices when it comes to
designing it. Whether you have a room that you are planning to
convert or you are in a place where you have a completely
stripped room to with, take some time and really consider what
your options are going to be. The first thing that you need to
do when you are thinking about designing a nursery is to decide
on your budget. Don't worry, this is probably the least fun part
of the experience, but it also goes by pretty fast.

Knowing what kind of budget you have to work with will let you
really start the design process, and it will also help you
figure out what where your money needs to stretch. Don't look at
this as a limitation; instead, look at your budget as a way to
get very creative as you are planning for a lovely room for your
baby to live and grow in.

The next thing that you are going to need to decide on is theme.
Choosing the right theme for your nursery is going to go a long
way towards helping you figure out how to unify the room and tie
it together. Remember that it doesn't have to be very
complicated at all. It can be a simple as a color scheme or as
elaborate as doing up the entire room in birds, trains or
cartoon characters. Think about what would soothe you when you
walk in to see to your child, and what would give the room a
real personality. This is a great way to kick off the
nitty-gritty of the planning, and without it, you risk having a
room that looks rather poorly put together. Color is another
important consideration when you are thinking about decorating a
nursery. Take some time to really think about what your options
are going to be when it comes to color. Check out the light that
comes into the room. If you have an eastern or a southern
exposure, you are probably going to have light to spare, but
anything else might mean that you have to consider what colors
to use to brighten the room.

Though a lot of people will default to blue for boys and pink
for girls, you'll find that there are plenty of other choices
out there as well. For example, there are ways to make a room
feminine without using pink. Using pale shades of green, purple,
and yellow can do quite well, and rich accents of silver or
chocolate brown can be a nice touch. For boys, you may be
interested in more metallic shades or even something a bit
bolder. Another thing to think about when you are designing your
nursery is who is going to be using it.

At first blush, you may think that it will be just you and your
baby, but keep in mind that there are going to be other people
around as well. You'll find that even when you and your spouse
want to have a quiet chat that it can be difficult unless you
have some sitting room planned. Babies love to hear the sound of
your voice, so why not make up some sitting room, whether that
means bringing in a love seat or installing a window seat?
Either method lets you make the baby's room a more social place
to sit and just hang out with your newest addition.

When you are thinking about decorating your nursery, consider
some of the essential areas that you need to have. For instance,
what is the corner where the crib is going to go look like? If
you are building the room up from scratch, consider installing a
shelf over it. This will give you a place to set things like a
baby monitor, various toys and other important items. Similarly,
make sure that you plan out where the changing station is going
to be and what you are going to be using.

The first option that you are going to have in front of you is
using a changing table. A changing table has a lot of space for
things like extra diapers, but it will tend to be a bit more
pricey. On the other hand, a dresser is less costly, but will be
a little less multi-purpose. You may also want to consider a
piece that you purchase used and then refinish; you'd be
surprised at what kind of difference that you can make with a
fresh coat of paint. Another great choice that you are going to
have in front of you is what kind of fabrics you want to use in
the room.

The two main qualities that you are looking for when you want to
purchase cloth for a child's nursery are soft and washable. Just
assume that you will need to clean it at some point, and
remember that you will want to make sure that your baby will
like to touch it. With just a little bit of shopping around,
you'll find that it is fairly simple to match colors.

There are lots of choices for you to make when you are looking
at designing a nursery, so get started and keep your theme in
mind.
